NO CLASS TODAY!!!! or the rest of the week!

Hi everyone!
So According to KSL they say the storm is going to be really bad tonight. They said they suggest people don't go on the roads after about 4pm. Therefore, I am going to Cancel all dance classes tonight. If you would like to make up a class you may attend any of the Ballet, or Technique classes next week! I will feel bad if the storm really isnt that bad.....but I will feel worse if it is as bad as they say and people are driving on unsafe roads and the chance of an accident. The last big storm we had I had students til 2 am and it was really scary! Please Spread the Word to anyone you know that has dance tonight!! Thanks for your understanding and sorry for any inconvienence!

Please remember there are no classes Wed or Thurs either due to Thanksgiving Break!

Happy Thanksgiving! Stay Safe!

Each of the non-competition teams will be learning a little Christmas routine to show you along with what they have been learning in class. It is very critical that the dancers don’t miss class for they will be behind.
As it is getting darker earlier, please be very careful as you come into the parking lot and drive slow. Also, If your child comes to dance with a jacket please have them leave with a jacket.
Thanks you so much for choosing Ultimate Dance as your childs dance education. We take great pride in our teachers and in our curriculum and we love having you as a part of our family. If you have any questions or concerns please email me at ultimatedanceetc@yahoo.com

Competition Parents Meeting Notes

Competition Parents Meeting Notes
Competition Team Parents Etc.
It is so good to be back in the dance season again. All of the Teams have been working so hard on their first routine for Competition. Almost all of the teams have finished choreography for the first dance and will be starting choreography for the 2nd routine later this month or the beginning of November! I am so excited about how great each of the teams already look! I know this is going to be a great year for us!
This year we have 13 competitions teams. As some of you may know when it comes to competition time Candice, Kristin, and I will be very busy trying to get each team on and off the stages to perform. This is where we need the parents help! Each Team need 2-3 Team Moms to help the team get ready to perform at the competitions. Some of the responsibilities of Team Mom would be to make sure all dancers are present and in correct costume, have all dancers stretching, and run the routines with them before we come to get them. If you are interested in being the Team Mom please sign up in the office.
We are so excited to be competing in the Advanced category this year and I know we will do great!

Competition Fees and Costume Fees
Costume fees are due on or before October 21st
Sweet n Sassy, Pewees, Minis, and Diamonds=$80
All other Competition Teams=$90
This is the total for 2 costumes and does not include tights and shoes

Competition Fees are due on or before December 2nd
Competition Fees are $165 per Team
Unfortunately the competitions have raised their prices this year, but……at least 3 out of the 5 competitions we are attending this year do not have an entrance fee at the door for families!
Each team will compete 2 dances at 5 different competitions. All Competitions are MANDATORY.
Please plan on traveling to St. George for competition on March 27th. Competitions usually start early in the morning so it is a good idea to plan on spending the night on Friday in or near St. George.

Competitions for 2011
Here is the tentative schedule for the 2011 competition season. Schedule may change. All team dances will be on Saturday and all solos, duets, and trios will be on Friday

Warm-ups are optional but highly recommended for all competition dancers. Warm-up orders must be in full and paid for by October 18th before I will order them. If you order is not paid for I will wait to put them in with the next order or until they have been paid for.
Jackets w/name =$35
Pants w/name=$35
You can order them in the office! Bags are available as well for $20

Attendance
It is very critical that dancers are at every practice. We learn so much in every class that most dancers feel lost when they come back after missing a week.

Summer Slam Dance camp!

2 weeks away! It's almost time for our Summer slam Dance Camp in Idaho!! I am so excited and I hope this will be a great experience for all!
The Remaining $100 Fee is NOW DUE!!! If all fees are not paid we cannot take your dancer!!

I have a few very important last minute details for you!!

1. Please make sure your dancer is prepared with dance clothes for all 3 dance days. Please make sure this is real dance clothes not tshirt and shorts. I have a special surprise for the first dance day so if you have brown dance bottoms please bring them!
Please make sure that your dancer has the proper dance shoes for the camp. Preferrably Jazz shoes, Foot undies, and sneakers. They will be learning Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip Hop Dances!

2. We have to have a liability form signed for every dancer or they will not be able to dance! I will have those when we meet the day we leave or EMAIL me and I can send it to you ahead of time! ultimatedanceetc@yahoo.com

3. Secret Sisters- I thought it would be fun to give out secret sister gifts while we are at camp to add to the excitement! Please send your dancer with 4 inexpensive secret sister gifts to give away. (under $5) We will choose names the first night of camp!

4. We will meet at the studio on Wednesday August 4th at 3pm and drive to pocatello. We will return home on Saturday August 7th around 5 or 5:30ish.

5. There will be a showcase on the 7th of the girls dancing the routines they learned during the week for anyone who would like to make the drive up to pocatello. It is free and the showtime is at 12:30!

6. The $250 includes the hotel, dance camp, breakfast, and lunch every day. This does not include dinner. Please have your dancer bring extra money for dinner. We will be eating out every night! Last year most girls brought about $30 and it was more than enough!
Also, please be aware that Hotel room is based on quad occupancy so if your dancer feels uncomfortable sharing a bed, you may want to consider bringing a blow up mattress. **There will be no adults sleeping in the same bed as a dancer unless they are family**

Here is a list of girls and chaperones that will be attending camp! If your name is on here and you are not attending camp or if your name isnt on here and you are planning on going please let Misty know! Stadium of Fire Dancers

Ok so here is an email that stadium of fire sent to me so I will just relay it on to you. Please read thoroughly so that your dancer is prepared!
SOF Dancer Important Information:
REHEARSALS - Make sure your dancers are ON TIME for roll call at EVERY rehearsal.
July 1 & 2nd will be on the N. practice field (Canyon Rd. 1230 N.)
July 2 (evening dress rehearsal) & July 3rd rehearsal will be at the BYU stadium.
a. Dancers need to wear - Tennis shoes and knee pads (or something else to cover their knees) for all rehearsals on the north practice field. We will be practicing on Astroturf and it is extremely HOT and will BURN their feet and their knees if they don’t wear something to protect them. Gore boots will melt on the Astroturf, so it needs to be tennis shoes!!!! Bring you tan gore boot to wear for dress rehearsal and for the morning rehearsal on July 3rd at BYU stadium.
b. Shade!! Parent helpers should be prepared with their own shade canopies to keep themselves and your dancers in the shade during breaks, etc… We will have some sandbags to help anchor the canopies down (NO STAKES can be used – only weights or sandbags).
c. Drinks & Snacks!! We will have a constant flow of cold water available for the dancers all day during our rehearsals, however, I encourage you to bring Gatorade/Powerade type drinks to keep the dancers’ electrolytes balanced throughout the long rehearsals. Healthy snacks are also great – FRUIT is best. Just remember that anything we bring in, MUST be taken out with us – NO GARBAGE left behind!!!
d. Blankets/Chairs – Bring your own blankets and chairs to sit in under your shade canopies.
e. SUNSCREEN – please be sure your dancers are well protected from the sun!! We run the risk of heat stroke and painful sunburns if the dancers aren’t taking precautions to protect themselves. It’s no fun dancing with a bad sunburn – PAINFUL!! L

PROPS – You should all have your props by now (if not please call Lori at 330-701-0802). Junior wings: Please duct tape the ends of your sticks before you put them into the wings. Sew the opening closed once your put your sticks into them. Trim the length of the wings according to the height of the dancer. The wings should NOT be longer than the Achilles tendon on the back of the dancers’ leg. I don’t want any dancers tripping on their wing props. Main Dancer “Ball” prop: Be sure to pump up your balls up so they are totally full and DO NOT LOSE THE PLUGS for the balls. We don’t have extra and you’d have to buy a whole new ball to get another plug. Also, these balls are difficult to find due to the color and we don’t have extra, so be very careful with these!!! To transport the balls easily – you may need to deflate them about ½ half way and then we’ll have a compressor at the rehearsals to blow them up all the way, but make sure they are blown up at least ½ way before arriving to rehearsals. ARRIVE EARLY to allow time to blow up the balls so we can start rehearsals on time!!! Main Dancer “Flag” prop: Be sure your flags are not twisted and that they are tightly affixed to the poles. Don’t get the stars dirty – keep them looking WHITE!!!

COSTUMES – Your costumes will be able to be picked up on July 1st during your rehearsal time at the N. practice field. Keep a director with your dancers and then you or your assistant can go pick up all the costumes for your dancers including your hairpiece, tights ordered and/or shoes ordered. Your SOF director shirts and any tanks or t-shirts ordered will also be there at the practice field. Be sure your dancers don t forget to bring any of their own items from home that they’ll need for dress rehearsal on the night of July 2nd.
COSTUME is…… Girl dancers both Main and Junior: Red metallic HOT Shorts with tan tights under them and tan gore shoe. Red and Silver/White top worn with a white spaghetti strap tank/camesol under it (the back of these tops are slightly see-thru).
Silver Sequin/White hair pieces will be worn like a head band and tied underneath your pony tail. You will need lots of bobby pins to hold the hair piece in place.
Boy dancers will wear Red Shiny Basketball shorts with a fitted short sleeve lycra shirt to coordinate with what the girls wear, but with out the “glitz”. Boys need to wear either the tan gore shoe or plain white or gray sneakers. No bright colors or black shoes please.
HAIR …… Girls need to pull their hair back into a SLICKED low pony tail – no curl, just straight and clean looking. No wispies – lots of gel and hair spray!!! Bobby pins to hold hair and headband in place. The headband hair piece will tie in a knot underneath the pony tail and have approx. 4 inches of fabric left hanging there. Boys hair should look nice and professional – keep hair out of face!!
MAKE-UP….. Performance make-up for everyone – Whatever you’re used to doing for competition including FAKE eyelashes and nice rich/dark colors for eyes, cheeks, and lips. (you will NOT need to wear make-up for dress rehearsal, but you will need to be in FULL costume and hair pulled back into pony tail).

WRISTBANDS – you should all have received your wristbands by now. Be careful with these!! The Blue ones are for dancers and directors. These ARE your tickets into the show!! The yellow wristbands are for any “helpers” you choose to bring with you to rehearsals, but these will not get your “helpers” into the show. You do not need to use your yellow wristbands if you choose not to, and I suggest you choose your “helpers” wisely!! Your helpers should help to keep our rehearsal running smoothly and HELP you rather than “baby” the dancers or hinder are rehearsalsJ. You understand what I saying here – right?!
“Helper” Responsibilities are: Keep dancers focused and on task during the long rehearsals!! Keep the dancers re-applying their sunscreen. “Spray” the dancers down with water every once in a while without causing a distraction to the rehearsal. Make sure the dancers use the restroom on breaks (the dancers may not feel like they need to, but this actually helps their bodies to not overheat and get “heatstroke”- learned this from the EMT guysJ). Clean up any and ALL garbage. Help keep track of the dancers’ props. Help transport dancers to and from rehearsal ON TIME!!!
Director Responsibilities are: Know the SOF routine inside and out including ALL the Charts and how the dancers should move to get to each formation. Help down on the field and with dancers getting to know exactly where they need to go and on what count they should move! Be sure your dancers are ON TIME FOR ROLL CALL!! Provide a positive, helpful, and respectful atmosphere for everyone involved with the show. Set an appropriate example for your dancers to follow – don’t try to bend the rules or do things that you know are not allowed or considered professional and appropriate for this show. NO ONE is allowed in the VIP seating area or in the SOUTH area of the stadium. During the show – NO ONE leaves the field EXCEPT those main dancers who have “ball” props and yourselves!! Ball props will be carried off the field and to our “prop storage” area under the WEST bleachers (same place as last year). Directors will collect the “Flags” from the main dancers and the “Wings” from the junior dancers and take them to the “prop storage” area. Everyone must then return to the field and sit in your designated area with the rest of your group to enjoy the show and prepare for our FINALE number following Carrie Underwoods’ concert. Directors must be in their Navy Blue SOF shirt and/or navy blue Directors shirt and will ALL need to participate in the FINALE number with your dancersJ If you have a Navy blue shirt of your own to wear then that’s fine. WE just need to look professional and uniform down on the field.
Dancers’ Responsibilities are: All dancers MUST come to rehearsals prepared and ready to work hard!!! NO WHINING!!! Positive attitudes and well rehearsed so that we can move smoothly through the routine and the charting!! The routine should be PERFECTLY cleaned and SHARP!!! Once dancers are done with their SOF performance, they need to sit quietly in their designated “seating chart” area on the field. Dancers may NOT stand up and jump around during the show, but they are welcome to be on their knees and “bounce” around and have fun. NO tumbling or “partner stunts/piggy backs/etc….”. If the dancers need a bathroom break during the show, Directors need to escort them out through the Northwest or Northeast portals and accompany them to the restroom.
SOF Dvd’s – You have until the end of this month to Pre-order your amazing SOF DVD’s at the discount rate of $20/each. These DVD’s are so fun for th dancers to have. They are priceless to have as a memory of your kids’ involvement with this AWESOME SHOW!! We will have fun montages of rehearsals, exciting photos, camera views/angles from all three sides of the stadium during the show, AND the TV coverage all put onto this fun SOF Dancer DVD!!! I’ve attached the order form to the email for you. Anything postmarked after June 30th will be $30 instead of $20 per dvd!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!

May Newsletter
Message from Misty
We are now at the end of the winter/spring session and there is a lot going on. All of the dancers and Tumblers have been working so hard for the end of the year recital and are so excited to show their friends and family what they have learned. Please make this a big deal for your child because they are so excited and want you to be excited for them. There will be a lot of important information in this letter so please read it twice! I will also post it on our blog and website if you need to refer back to it. Ultimatedanceetc.blogspot.com or http://www.ultimatedanceetc.com/ . Thank you for all of your continued support and for helping make Ultimate Dance such a great studio.

Mandatory Dress Rehearsal
Mandatory Dress Rehearsal will be Friday May 21st at Willowcreek Junior High. Please make sure your child is in full costume and arrives 5 minutes before their scheduled time. Each class will only be practicing 10 minutes so please do not be late. This is very important so that they can get used to the stage and know where to stand before the Recital. Competition Teams will not have dress rehearsal for they have already had 5+ performances and do not need one.

Spring Recital
Spring Recital will be on Saturday May 22nd at Willowcreek Jr. High School. There will be no admission charge so invite all your family and friends. There will be no saving seats. It is in an auditorium so every seat is a good seat! There will be 2 shows so that grandparents and sibling will not have to sit through a 4 hour show. However, both shows will be different so you are welcome to come to both! I tried very hard to get families with multiple dancers in the same show. I came to find out it is absolutely impossible. So, I sincerely apologize if you have two children in separate shows. Listed below is what classes will be in what shows. These are not the order of the show.

March competition Team Newsletter

Congratulations to UDE Competition Teams!
We had our first competition at the end of February and did extremely well! We received mostly 1st and 2nd places. Our Pewee team and Minis team also won overall High Point in each of their lyrical pieces. They had one of five highest scores out 70 teams! We also Won Overall best Dance Studio in both Novice, and Beginning levels, and our Jr. Elite team topped it off with a 1st place High Gold in Intermediate level for their Jazz routine. I was so proud of all the teams and had many compliments from people outside of our studio. Our Soloist did extremely well too. We had 13 soloist compete and left with nine 1st places and four 2nd Places. Not bad for our 1st competition!

The competition usually starts really early in the morning and we need all dancers there rested and refreshed! As usual, We will not have any Competition Teams classes on Thursday the 25th. March 15th $20 deposit due
April 15th $60 Due
May 20th - The Remaining $40 is due

Thank you!

Hey Everyone I just wanted to relay a few comments that were given to me at the dance competition this last week. I had the director of the Competion, a staff at the competition and a director from another studio all come up to me at different times. They each told me about the same thing. They said they were so impressed with our studio. Not only how professional and what great dancers we have, but at how "Nice" and "Well behaved" all of the girls are. I told them I am pleased to hear that because I wouldnt have it another way. I also told them that it is because they have such great parents that teach them to be "Nice". I really am blessed to have such great dancers and families as a part of my studio. Thank you for teaching your kids how to be such great people!

Thanksgiving point results!

I am so Proud of all of the girls! Everyone did such a great job! I always say our first competition is our "practice" competition, but most of my teams did better than I expected for the first competiton of the season. There were a lot of really competitive dance studios there that go 3 x's as many hours as any of our dancers and we were right there with them if not dominating them. Here are the results!

We have Dress Rehearsal coming up these next two weeks. Please remember this is Mandatory not optional. Everyone must be there so that we can space the dances and make sure that everyone has proper dance attire and hair styles. It is very Crucial to be there! Here is how your hair should be:

Please make sure that there are no fly aways and that hairstyle is tight and slick. Absolutely no bangs!

February team newsletter

Competition Team February Newsletter
It’s Competition Time!
Wow! I can’t believe it is competition time already! I am more than excited for our first competition. The girls have been working so hard for this all year! Our first competition is on February 27th at Thanksgiving point! We have a lot of new competitors this year, please talk with them often about the competition and what goes on so that they will be prepared. Thanksgiving point is not charging admission at the door this year! YAY! So you can bring whoever you want. Please remember our first competition we call our “practice Competition” because this is the competition where the girls get all of their nerves out and we see what works and doesn’t work with the dances. This is usually our not the best performance for the teams but one to get them into the groove with the Competitions! Although, we usually still do pretty good!
I usually do not get lineups until the week before, but I will post them as soon as I receive them!
The next competition is on March 20th @Timpview and March 27th @ St. George. Please remember all competitions are Mandatory!!!!!
If you have not got your room for St. George call now because there are two different dance competitions and lots of conventions there that weekend. I called La Quinta last week and they only have 9 rooms left!!!

Costumes
All of the costumes have been ordered and some have already arrived! I will be sending them home with those who have paid all of their costume, competition, and tuition fees! I will have them try them on during class to make sure they fit like I want them to. Please do not let the dancers play dress up in their costumes for we want them to be in tip top shape for performances. Please put them in a safe place for I will not be able to order another one if you are missing a part of your costume.

Expressions Team
After trying on jazz costumes I think it is very important that the expressions team has black Gore shoes instead of Tan. If you just bought some from me I will exchange them!
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience

Mandatory Dress Rehearsal
Please mark your calendar for these rehearsal dates. It is critical that everybody is there so that we can use the whole dance studio and space the dances as if they were on a stage! Parents may attend if they would like. Parents are encouraged to come for the younger dancers so that they will have help to change their costumes. Dress rehearsal means full costume including hair, make up, tights, shoes etc. Please come in your Jazz costume first.

Disneyland Performance Cancelled!

Disneyland called back today and said they have made some very strict policies this year. They said they would love to have our older Teams come and perform but that they are not allowing children under the age of 7 to perform this year. I told them that we had 5 and 6 yr olds perform last year and they did great! Sorry I couldn't budge them, they said things may change for next year again. Due to this and with the economy down and people having to back out, We do not have the required amount of dancers able to perform. I am so sorry that we have to cancel for this year but we will definitely try to go again next year. I am sorry for any inconvience and I am hopeful that there will be enough interest in spring 2011.
Last year was such a great experience and I am so sad not to go this year but it is in my full intent to make this an option next year. So save your pennies!!!

Disneyland!

Ok I got a call from Disneyland Yesterday that our Audition was approved and that we will be able to perform in Disneyland. I know some of you have decided you can't go and some others have decided that they do want to go now. I need a for sure list of who is going to go so that I can make sure we have enough. Please let me know this next week! We have to have at least 25 performers to be able to perform. Here are the prices for tickets this year. This is a park hopper price and all performers must purchase at least a 1 day ticket. This includes the performance, entrance to the park and a Disneyland shirt.
1 DAY DISNEYLAND ONLY=$64
DAY PARK HOPPER=$75
2 DAY PARK HOPPER=$112
3 DAYPARK HOPPER=$128
4 DAY PARK HOPPER=$138
5 DAY PARK HOPPER=$148

These prices are also good for family and friends too they just dont get to perform or get a T-Shirt!
We will most likely be Performing on April 7th! This is not 100% confirmed.
Please confirm that you are going or not going in the office. Again, if we do not have at least 25 they will not let us perform! This is a very fun stress free experience and if you can make it work I would encourage you to go!
Thanks,
Misty
